Kansas
governor, Democratic Governors JACKSON (Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007) Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, chair of the Democratic Governors Association, will headline the Mississippi Democratic Partys 2007 Democratic Elected Officials Appreciation Dinner next month. Sebelius is the keynote speaker for the dinner, which is set for 7 p.m. Friday, March 9, at Lakeover Center, 6531 Dogwood View Parkway in Jackson. Tables are $500 each; individual tickets are $60 in advance and $75 at the door. Gov. Sebelius has done a remarkable job in Kansas with her determined commitment to create new jobs, protect families and communities, make health care more affordable and improve the quality and efficiency of public schools, said Wayne Dowdy, chairman of the Mississippi Democratic Party. Time magazine named Gov. Sebelius one of the nations top five governors in 2005, Dowdy said. Perhaps we can learn from her success and experience about how to more effectively govern and improve peoples lives in Mississippi. The Mississippi Democratic Partys annual spring dinner recognizes and honors Democrats who hold elected office across the state. The state party will present several high-profile awards including the Evelyn Gandy Award, given to the top Democratic state legislator, and the Outstanding County Elected Officials Awards, given to a Democratic elected official in each of the states four congressional districts. Besides serving a second term as Kansas governor, Sebelius chairs the Democratic Governors Association. The organization, founded in 1983, is an independent, voluntary political group that supports the candidacies of Democratic gubernatorial nominees and incumbents nationwide. The DGA is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and serves as the united voice for Americas Democratic governors. The organizations members include all governors in U.S. states and territories who belong to the Democratic Party. Sebelius also serves on the National Governors Association Executive Committee. Gov. Sebelius is a dynamic leader with much to offer, Dowdy said. We look forward to hearing her thoughts about why it is so important this year for people to elect candidates from the Democratic Party the only party that offers a specific vision for the future of Mississippi, our country and our citizens.
